TikTok Shop prohibits the sale of certain medicines, medical devices, and other health products marketed as dietary supplements, wellness products, or research products. Certain over-the-counter (OTC) medication may be permitted subject to additional requirements.
Whether a product is classified as a drug, dietary supplement, cosmetic, or other consumer products under US law depends on its intended use, ingredients, claims, and function, not how the seller labels or categorizes it. TikTok Shop may classify a product based on its listing, images, packaging, labeling, instructions, and other marketing materials.
Sellers are responsible for ensuring that all expressed and implied claims, including those appearing in product titles, descriptions, images, videos, packaging, labeling, testimonials, and other marketing materials comply with this policy. TikTok Shop may review any such claims and take action on listings that violate applicable requirements.

    Medicines and Drug Products

This category covers products intended for use in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease in humans, or intended to affect the structure or function of the body through chemical action or metabolism. It includes both prescription (Rx) and OTC drugs, as well as products that meet the drug definition based on their claims even if marketed as supplements or cosmetics.

Examples include medical instruments, equipment, machines, implants, and certain "in vitro" diagnostic products.

Certain classes and types of medical devices are prohibited. See Medical Devices and Medical Supplies Requirements for more information.

    Medical and Health Claims

Product claims may affect how a product is classified and whether it is permitted on TikTok Shop. A product may be treated as a drug or medical device when its listing claims or implies that it diagnoses, cures, mitigates, treats, or prevents a disease or medical condition, regardless of whether the seller describes it as a dietary supplement, cosmetic, wellness product, or consumer product.
Medical and health-related claims are regulated by the FDA and FTC. FDA generally regulates product classification and labeling, while FTC generally regulates advertising and requires health-related claims to be truthful, non-misleading, and adequately substantiated. Depending on how and where a claim appears, both agencies’ requirements may apply.
For more details, see FDA: Food and Dietary Supplements Claims | FDA: Drug Classification Guidance | FDA: Drug vs Cosmetic Resource | FTC: Claims Guidance.
