Prohibited Products Policy

Key Points:

• Sellers must not list or sell prohibited products, including illegal, unsafe, counterfeit, recalled, or regulated items that violate laws or TikTok Shop policies.
• Prohibited categories span many areas (for example, weapons, drugs, alcohol/tobacco, hazardous items, financial products, certain health/beauty and baby products), and restrictions may apply even if items are legal locally.
• Violations can lead to enforcement actions such as listing removal, account penalties, or loss of selling privileges.
• Sellers are responsible for ensuring their products comply with all applicable US federal, state, and local laws and TikTok Shop policies.

Prohibited Products

• Products whose sale, distribution, or shipment violate applicable laws or regulations in any country where they are advertised for sale
• Stolen goods that are not your property or that were obtained through illegal means
• Gray market products (items sold outside of authorized distribution channels), counterfeit products, and any products that infringe on a third party's intellectual property or proprietary rights
• Products that cannot be lawfully imported into the customer's country, including products sourced from or manufactured in territories subject to economic or trade sanctions
• Products that have been recalled by manufacturers or by governmental or regulatory authorities. For more details, see Product Recall Policy
• Products that present a significant safety risk to consumers on TikTok Shop
• Any other products designated as prohibited under this policy

Regulated Goods

Alcohol, Tobacco, and E-cigarettes

• Alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, spirits, hard cider, hard seltzer, sake, mead, and homemade or infused alcoholic beverages.
• Consumable foods containing 0.5% or more alcohol by volume, including alcohol-infused chocolates, candies, sauces, baked goods, and frozen desserts, even when the alcohol is described as cooked off or reduced.
• Smoking, smokeless, and herbal smoking products, including cigarettes, cigars, loose-leaf and pipe tobacco, chewing tobacco, snuff, snus, dissolvable tobacco, herbal cigarettes, and other tobacco-free products intended for smoking.
• Nicotine products, including nicotine pouches and products containing synthetic or tobacco-free nicotine. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved over-the-counter nicotine replacement therapies, such as nicotine gum, patches, and lozenges, are also prohibited on TikTok Shop at this time.
• Functional tobacco and smoking accessories, including cigar cutters, cigarette or cigar holders, tobacco pipes, hookahs and their functional parts, hookah charcoal, cigarette or cigar injectors and rollers, rolling papers, and cigarette flavor beads.
• E-Cigarettes, Vapes, Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS), and other products intended to simulate smoking or deliver substances through direct inhalation are prohibited, whether or not they contain tobacco or nicotine.
  • This includes disposable and refillable devices, heat-not-burn products, nicotine-free vapes, vitamin-based vapes, wellness vapes, herbal or essential-oil diffusers and inhalers - whether electronic or non-electronic - as well as e-liquids, vape additives, replaceable pods and cartridges, vape-specific batteries and chargers, tanks, coils, and other functional components or accessories.

Animal, Animal-Related Products, Protected Wildlife, and Plants

• Live animals of any kind, including pets, livestock, insects, arachnids, worms, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and birds
• Animal reproductive materials, including fertilized animal eggs, embryos, sperm, semen, and animal genetic or reproductive material
• Medicinal products, supplements, and other goods derived from exotic or endangered animals, including products such as tiger-bone wine, snake wine, animal venom preparations, and other products represented as containing protected or exotic species
• Dangerous animal-derived poisons, toxins, venoms, or compounds that may cause illness, injury, or death
• Parts and derivatives from exotic or endangered animals, including real fur, skins, feathers, bones, teeth, horns, tusks, claws, scales, reptile products, and other hard parts or materials derived from prohibited species
• Taxidermy made from any animal, including mounted, stuffed, or otherwise preserved animal bodies or specimens
• Products intended to permanently modify an animal's body, including tools or kits for ear cropping, tail docking, declawing, debarking, debeaking, dehorning, wing clipping, implants, or similar permanent procedures
• Hunting or wildlife baits, lures, and traps designed to kill, confine, injure, or cause distress to animals. This does not include permitted pest-control products (ex: Rodents, insects, etc.) or recreational fishing equipment
• Veterinary medicines and medical equipment intended for advanced animal care, including vaccines, prescription veterinary drugs, injectable treatments, syringes marketed for veterinary use, and advanced diagnostic or monitoring equipment
• Plants, seeds, cuttings, and other live plant material shipped from outside the United States
• Noxious, poisonous, invasive, dangerous, or harmful plants and seeds, including those prohibited by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA)
• Unidentified plants, seeds, or propagative material, including "mystery seeds" or products that do not disclose the exact species being sold

Vehicles, Automotive Parts, and Powersports Products

Prohibited Vehicles

• Cars, trucks, vans, buses, road-use motorcycles, mopeds, motor scooters, and other motor vehicles manufactured, certified, marketed, or intended for use on public roads or required to be titled or registered for public-road use
• Dual-sport motorcycles and other vehicles marketed for both off-road and public-road use
• Vehicle conversion kits intended to make a prohibited vehicle eligible for public-road use
• All-terrain vehicles (ATVs), utility task vehicles (UTVs), dune buggies, go-karts, golf carts, snowmobiles, and other powered recreational vehicles.

Tires, Wheels, Rims, and Wheel Accessories

• Used, retreaded, recapped, regrooved, repaired, patched, refurbished, remanufactured, or otherwise previously utilized tires
• Tires that have previously been mounted to a wheel or rim
• Used, refurbished, remanufactured, rebuilt, reconditioned, damaged, previously installed, or previously mounted wheels, rims, or wheel accessories
• Tires, wheels, or rims with removed, altered, or missing original manufacturer labels, markings, or identification information
• Tires without a valid and unaltered USepartment of Transportation Tire Identification Number (TIN)
• Tires manufactured more than three years before the date of sale. The manufacture date is encoded in the last four digits of the DOT TIN on the tire sidewall (e.g., '2324' means the 23rd week of 2024).
• Tires with fewer than two years remaining before expiration of the original manufacturer warranty, if the tire is covered by a time-limited manufacturer warranty

Used, Reconditioned, or Previously Installed Automotive and Powersports Parts

• Used, refurbished, remanufactured, rebuilt, reconditioned, salvaged, previously installed, previously mounted, or otherwise previously utilized automotive or powersports parts
• Parts removed from dismantled, wrecked, or salvaged vehicles

Emissions-Control Defeat Products

• Diesel particulate filter (DPF), selective catalytic reduction (SCR/DEF), exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), catalytic converter, diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), and NOx adsorption catalyst delete or bypass products
• Delete kits, delete pipes, block-off plates, plugs, gaskets, cooler-delete kits, and similar hardware
• Tuners, programmers, or calibrations that disable emissions monitors, suppress diagnostic trouble codes, override malfunction indicator lights, or otherwise alter emissions-related operations
• Oxygen-sensor simulators, plugs, spacers, adapters, and extenders intended to prevent detection of a missing or ineffective emissions component
• Throttle-valve delete products and crankcase-ventilation reroute or delete products
• Exhaust pipes, downpipes, or exhaust kits designed to remove or bypass required emissions-control components

Vehicle Safety Systems and Bypass Products

• Airbags, airbag covers, airbag inflators, airbag modules, airbag components, and pyrotechnic restraint components
• Seat belts, seat-belt buckles, pretensioners, extenders, adjusters, and other seat-belt components
• Airbag or supplemental restraint system (SRS) crash-data reset tools, reset modules, emulators, simulators, bypass products, or services intended to conceal a deployed, missing, or malfunctioning safety system
• Devices intended to bypass or interfere with advanced driver-assistance or driver-monitoring systems, including steering-wheel counterweights and autopilot “nag reduction” devices
• Seat-belt alarm silencers and products intended to bypass parking-brake or other vehicle safety interlocks
• Products intended to alter, roll back, freeze, or misrepresent a vehicle’s odometer reading
• Wheel spacers, wheel adapters, and vehicle-lowering kits
• Other aftermarket products designed or marketed to replace, modify, bypass, disable, or interfere with a required vehicle safety system

Road, Registration, and Law-Enforcement Circumvention Products

• License-plate covers, films, sprays, frames, or other products intended to obscure a plate from visual inspection, cameras, or automated readers
• Replica, blank, customizable, temporary, or replacement government-issued license plates, registration tags, disabled-parking placards, vehicle identification number (VIN) plates, or vehicle titles
• Counterfeit or replacement Department of Transportation, vehicle-certification, emissions-compliance, registration, weight-rating, or state-inspection labels and stickers
• Emergency warning lights, sirens, or related equipment that imitate equipment used by police, fire, ambulance, or other official emergency-response vehicles
• Traffic-signal components and products designed to interfere with traffic-control, tolling, vehicle-enforcement, GPS, or authorized radio-communication systems

Fuels and Used Automotive Fluids

• Gasoline, diesel, kerosene, aviation fuel, racing fuel, nitromethane fuel, and similar combustible motor fuels
• Used, drained, waste, contaminated, or collected automotive oil and other used automotive fluids

Automotive Batteries

• Automotive batteries, replacement battery packs, jump starters, and other standalone battery products with a rated capacity exceeding 300 Wh (watt-hours) are prohibited.

Electric Bikes and Scooters

• Electric motorbikes, e-mopeds, or e-motorcycles exceeding Class 3 limits (>28 mph or >750W)
• Gas-powered or hybrid two-wheelers
• E-bikes or e-scooters with lead-acid batteries
• E-bike conversion kits or aftermarket motor/battery upgrades sold as complete e-bikes
• Recalled e-bikes, e-scooters, or battery packs
• Devices without functional pedals listed as "electric bikes"

Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia

• All illegal drugs, chemicals and raw materials including, but not limited to, stimulants, depressants, opioids, hallucinogens, dissociatives, inhalants, and synthetic substances ('designer drugs')
• New psychoactive substances and emerging drugs with unpredictable effects and risks
• Psychoactive plants and fungi, including products derived from psychoactive mushrooms
• Narcotics, steroids, and other drugs prohibited by law or regulation
• Any chemicals, ingredients, or raw materials used to manufacture drugs or addictive substances. This includes but is not limited to marijuana, opium, and poppy bulbs
• Drug paraphernalia, such as products primarily intended for making, preparing, consuming, or concealing "controlled substances." This includes but is not limited to bongs, glass pipes, or vaporizers designed for smoking or drug use
• Pill presses, die molds, and other products related to pill production
• Products identified in an FDA warning letter as unsafe, adulterated, or misbranded
• Products that claim to provide a "legal high," including marijuana and medicinal marijuana
• Products listed on the Department of Defense (DOD) Prohibited Dietary Supplement Ingredients list

Firearms, Ammunition, and Weapons

• Firearms of any kind, including, but not limited to, handguns (pistols and revolvers), rifles, shotguns, muzzleloaders, automatic weapons, military-style firearms, sporting guns, or hunting guns
• Non-powder projectile devices such as simulation guns, airsoft guns, BB guns, potato launchers, replica guns, all gun keychains, and model guns
• Non-powdered projectile devices such as airsoft guns, BB guns, and potato or spud launchers
• Imitation and firearm look-alike devices such as replica guns, model guns, miniature guns, gun keychains and charms. Clearly, identifiable toy products may be permitted. See the Toy Guns FAQ for more details.
• All associated parts, kits, ammunition, components, and accessories for building or constructing firearms, including but not limited to bullets, magazines, barrels, weapon conversion kits (e.g., machine gun conversion devices such as auto sears, glock switches, silencers/suppressors, bump-fire stocks, and/or any kit or part designed to change a firearm's rate of fire or classification), and firing pins
  • Cleaning kits are allowed
• Knives that are designed as or are marketed as weapons, including automatic knives (such as switchblades), butterfly knives (balisongs), machetes, concealed swords, gravity knives, knives designed to look harmless (lipstick case knives and writing pen knives), knuckle knives, push daggers, spring-loaded knives, stiletto knives, combat-style tanto daggers designed as weapons, and throwing stars (batman symbols, metal throwing stars, and similar items)
  • Ordinary kitchen knives, utility pocket knives, and hunting knives are allowed
• Military weapons and explosive devices, including grenades and similar weaponry
• Stun guns and conducted-energy weapons (including TASER-brand devices)
• Batons and telescopic truncheons
• Tear gas, pepper spray, and mace
• Brass knuckles, knuckledusters, hand claws, foot claws, and nunchucks
• Self-defense weapons or everyday-object weapons, including spiked keychains (including cat ear keychains), kubotans, tactical pens, weighted-monkey fists, and key-shaped or otherwise concealed knives
• Wrist-brace and high powered slingshots such as wrist rockets

Hazardous and Dangerous Items

• Any product, model, batch, or lot subject to an active safety recall issued or announced by a manufacturer or a US regulatory agency, including the FDA, Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), or National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), or subject to an official US Government warning directing consumers not to use, sell, or distribute the product.
• Any product containing a prohibited ingredient or using an FDA-restricted ingredient outside the applicable conditions. Examples include, but are not limited to:
  • Prohibited and restricted cosmetic ingredients
  • Food ingredients and additives
  • Dietary supplement ingredients
• Flammable liquids or materials, including but not limited to:
  • Epoxy Solvent
  • Rubbing alcohol and other isopropyl alcohol products
  • Acetone
  • Gasoline and lighter fluid
  • Lighters and torches containing butane or other fuels
  • Fire-starting fuels and accelerants
  • Strike Anywhere matches
• Any products containing mercury
• Any products containing cyanide
• Radioactive materials, such as tritium, and their processing equipment.
• Explosive materials and processing equipment, including but not limited to:
  • Ammonium nitrate
  • Potassium chlorate
  • Red phosphorus
  • Thermite and thermite-containing products
  • Explosive gases
  • Fireworks
  • Explosive fuses
• Toxic substances and hazardous chemicals, including but not limited to:
  • Methylene chloride, also known as dichloromethane or DCM
  • Carbon tetrachloride
  • Hydrofluoric acid
  • Nitric acid
  • Sodium azide
  • Arsenic
  • Chloroform
• Toxic and dangerous inhalants, including but not limited to:
  • Alkyl nitrite inhalants including amyl, butyl, isobutyl, and isopropyl nitrite
  • Nitrous Oxide
• Chemical substances prohibited by law or requiring a government license, permit, approval, or purchaser certification, including but not limited to:
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) List 1 and List 2 Chemicals
• Industrial-use chemicals that are not intended for general consumers
• Etching creams
• Ozone-depleting substances prohibited from sale under EPA requirements and refrigerants whose sale is restricted to EPA-certified purchasers
• Products prohibited under TikTok Shop’s Pesticides Requirements, including unregistered or misbranded pesticides and misbranded pesticide devices
• Small, high-powered loose or separable magnets, including magnets contained in sets, that fit entirely within the CPSC small-parts cylinder and have a flux index of 50 kG²mm² or greater. This includes, but is not limited too, magnetic balls, cubes, desk toys, fidget toys, building sets, jewelry, and similar products, regardless of the number of magnets included
• Aerosol paints or spray paint
• Piercing kits with needles, piercing needles, tattoo machines, and tattoo needles
• Laser pointers and demonstration lasers that exceed FDA Class IIIa or IEC Class 3R limits, including visible-wavelength laser pointers with an output power greater than 5 mW
• Water beads marketed for children or included in children's toys
• Lithium batteries above 300 Wh (watt-hours)

Medicines, Medical Devices, and Medicinal Supplements

Medicines and Drug Products

Prohibited Medicines and Drug Products:

• Prescription drugs and products requiring authorization or supervision from a licensed healthcare provider.
• Unapproved or unauthorized drug products, including foreign-market drugs not lawfully marketed for sale in the United States.
• Expired, opened, damaged, relabeled, repackaged, dispensed, sample, or investigational drug products
• Products containing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) that have not been lawfully marketed in the US as OTC drugs (e.g., certain peptides, research chemicals sold for human use)
• Veterinary drugs marketed or implied for human use
• Products containing hidden or undeclared prescription drug ingredients
• Beauty and Personal Care products that are made from or contain Cannabidiol, or CBD. This includes, but is not limited to, serums, creams, masks, body and face oils, lotions, shampoos, and other topical products

Supplement, Performance-Enhancing, and Research Products

Prohibited Supplement-Related Products

• Products containing or claiming to contain anabolic steroids, designer steroids, prohormones, steroid precursors, SARMs, or other performance-enhancing compounds
• Products marketed as substitutes for anabolic steroids, prescription hormone therapy, or human growth hormone
• Products marketed for steroid-like effects, post-cycle therapy, anabolic cycles, or drug-equivalent growth-hormone effects
• Supplements containing aristolochic acid, aconite, chaparral, or comfrey intended for ingestion. Topical comfrey products and comfrey seeds are not prohibited.
• Research peptides, research chemicals, or experimental compounds marketed or implied for human use.
• Products containing substances classified as "performance-enhancing drugs" (PEDs) by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). This includes, but is not limited to, anabolic steroids, peptide hormones, SARMs (Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators), and other agents used to enhance athletic performance or alter body composition beyond natural limits. This prohibition applies whether these substances are marketed as supplements, wellness products, or any other form to ensure a safe, responsible environment for all users.

• Certain perishable food items
• Prepackaged food for children under 3 years old
• Food items that are not packaged, labeled, or intended for retail sale in the US (for example, repurposed retail candies that do not comply with US laws and regulations)
• All homemade food products

Unauthenticated Native American-Related Products

Consumer Safety

Baby and Maternity Products

• Certain vitamins and supplements for children under 3 years of age
• All beaded teethers, including beaded amber teething jewelry, as well as those made from materials like amber, wood, silicone, or other elements
• Potentially dangerous baby products such as weighted baby swaddles and blankets, drop side cribs, co-sleepers, crib bumpers, and similar items

Beauty and Personal Care Products

• Cosmetic, beauty, and personal care products that:
  • require a prescription
  • are intended to be injected or implanted
  • are intended to be administered or applied by a licensed healthcare professional
  • require professional medical supervision for safe use.
• Cosmetics subject to an active FDA recall or safety alert, whether the recall is voluntary or FDA-ordered.
• Cosmetics containing:
  • Ingredients prohibited by the FDA or restricted ingredients used in violation of applicable concentration limits or other conditions. See FDA Prohibited and Restricted Ingredients in Cosmetics.
  • Color additives that do not meet applicable FDA approval, permitted-use, purity, or batch-certification requirements. See FDA Color Additives and Cosmetics.
  • Mercury, mercury compounds, or hydroquinone as ingredients, regardless of whether the product makes skin-whitening or skin-lightening claims.
• Rinse-off cosmetics containing plastic microbeads prohibited under the Microbead-Free Waters Act.
• Traditional cosmetics, including kohl, kajal, surma, al-kahal, tiro, tozali, and kwalli, that contain unapproved color additives, lead, or lead compounds.
• Beauty and Personal Care products that are made from or contain Cannabidiol, or CBD. This includes, but is not limited to, serums, creams, masks, body and face oils, lotions, shampoos, and other topical products

• Products marketed, labeled, or depicted as:
  • bleaching, whitening, or lightening natural skin color;
  • reducing overall melanin or melanin production; or
  • altering natural pigmentation across the face, lips, or body.
• Government-identified skin products: Regardless of a listing’s claims, title, category, or marketing, TikTok Shop prohibits products identified by government authorities as containing unsafe or unlawful levels of ingredients such as, mercury and/or hydroquinone. This restriction applies even when a seller removes the product’s skin-whitening claims or alters its listing images. The referenced lists may be updated by the issuing authorities; the lists below are not intended to be comprehensive.

• Peptide products are prohibited when they:
  • are labeled or marketed for "research-use," "laboratory use only,” or “not for human consumption” but are intended, implied, or presented for human use, including beauty or personal care
  • are intended for injection or reconstitution (e.g., mixing a powder or concentrate with liquid before use).
  • are marketed as prescription or unapproved drugs, even when described or categorized as beauty products
  • claim to treat a disease or affect the structure or function of the body

• Finished topical cosmetics containing peptides as ingredients, such as peptide moisturizers, creams, or serums. This exception does not apply to raw or research-use peptide preparations, injectable or reconstitutable products, or products making prohibited drug claims.
• Products marketed solely to brighten the appearance of the complexion, improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, or reduce the appearance of localized dark spots, post-acne marks, blemishes, or dark circles. These products must not claim or visually depict overall skin whitening, bleaching, lightening, or reduction of natural melanin.
• Products containing permitted hemp-derived cosmetic ingredients when the product does not contain or claim to contain CBD, CBG, THC, or another prohibited cannabinoid

Body Mental Wellness Products

Self Harm and Suicide

• Products that mention, depict, or reference specific methods of self harm or suicide, such as cutting, burning, overdosing, or hanging. This includes, but is not limited to, pens designed to replicate the sensation of cutting and books that describe suicide methods.
• Products or content that explicitly or implicitly depict, glorify, or promote suicide, self harm, or disordered eating behaviors.

Mental Health

• Products that glorify, promote, trivialize, or stigmatize mental health disorders, or that imply such disorders are aspirational, trendy, or desirable. This includes, but is not limited to, replicas of suicide notes and Halloween costumes depicting patients in mental health care facilities.

Body Aesthetics and Weight-Related Products

• Weight gain or muscle gain products marketed primarily for pursuing specific body aesthetics, such as larger muscles or larger buttocks.
• Products and supplements that claim to aid weight management, fat reduction, or similar goals. This includes, but is not limited to, diet pills, appetite suppressants, fat burners and creams, detox teas marketed for weight loss, and any item making explicit weight loss claims.
• Products and supplements that claim to increase height, promote or accelerate physical growth, or make an individual taller. This includes products marketed with height enhancement, height growth, or similar claims.

GLP-1 Products

• Products that use “GLP,” “GLP 1,” “Glucagon like peptide 1,” or similar terms in the product title or branding, except products clearly marketed as supportive, non drug products for individuals already using GLP 1 medications, such as related accessories or general wellness items that make no drug claims.

Safety-Related Products

• Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
• Robotic, autonomous, or mobile devices that are marketed or intended to act as a home's primary way of detecting smoke or carbon monoxide or as a replacement for a standalone smoke alarm or carbon monoxide alarm. This includes devices that claim to detect fire, smoke, or gas and alert occupants on their own, without a separate certified alarm installed.
• Wearable personal flotation devices (PFDs) as defined by United States Coast Guard (USCG) or Transport Canada at Performance Level 50, 70, 100, or 150, including devices carrying valid legacy Type I, II, or III approvals.
  • This policy does not prohibit recreational flotation and swim aids that do not carry a USCG or Transport Canada approval or Performance Level, such as swim-training vests, inflatable snorkeling vests, flotation belts, and arm flotation devices. These products must not be marketed as approved PFDs, lifesaving or rescue devices, or substitutes for legally required boating-safety equipment. Listings must clearly disclose that the product is not USCG or Transport Canada approved.
• Fire extinguishers, including but not limited to those using chemical, water, or carbon dioxide agents.

• Lottery tickets, instant win tickets, and scratch card tickets or labels of any sort
• Social casinos
• Slot machines and electronic gaming machines that are used for gambling
• Online gambling of any kind

• Casino-style games, such as roulette, slot machine, wager, lotteries, and poker
• Unlicensed gambling games, including sweepstake casinos and rewarded gaming products
• Claw machines and claw machine entries
• Lucky Games and Drawings such as Lucky Bag, Lucky Draw, Lucky Spin, Lucky Card, Wheel Spin, and Giveaway Entry

Lock Picking and Theft Devices

• Devices to bypass automobile locks or jiggling tools
• Secret handcuff keys
• Digital decoders
• Cards and guns for picking locks
• Sets of tools for lock picking
• Automobile lock bypass tools, including slim jims
• Tools for applying tension
• Practice locks
• Keys used for trial purposes
• Tools for opening tubular locks
• Instruments for duplicating keys
• Theft aids, including devices to detach sensormatic tags (a type of anti-theft tag used in retail)
• Devices for skimming cards
• Hacking devices
• Devices for capturing codes

Monetary Products and Financial Services

• Currency and replicas
